Frequently asked questions
Is this legal advice?
No. Civic Steady offers readiness and organizing tools: plain-language explanations of the published rule, checklists and templates. We do not give legal advice and we cannot guarantee compliance. Please talk with your attorney about your entity's obligations, especially about exceptions, policies and contracts.
Does the rule apply to a very small town or district?
The rule applies to state and local government entities of every size. Smaller entities and all special districts have the later compliance date. Your attorney can confirm how it applies to you.
Do we have to fix every old PDF?
Not necessarily. The rule lists exceptions, including properly archived content and documents posted before your compliance date that are not currently used to apply for or take part in services. Each exception has conditions. The kit's triage guide explains them and helps you record your decisions.
Will an accessibility widget or overlay make our site compliant?
An overlay alone generally does not make a site meet WCAG 2.1 AA. The kit focuses on real fixes, accessible templates and vendor accountability.
Do you scan or fix our website?
No. Civic Steady gives you the plan, the checklists and the templates, and Steady Desk keeps you on track. For complex fixes, we suggest working with your web vendor or a remediation specialist.
Can we pay by purchase order or invoice?
Yes. Request a quote and we will send a formal quote, a W-9 and an invoice with net 30 terms. You can also pay by card with the buy buttons on our pricing page.
What does "written answers only" mean?
Steady Desk questions are answered by email, in writing, usually within two business days. Written answers are easy to share with your team and keep on file. We do not offer phone or video consultations.
Can we cancel?
Yes. Monthly plans can be cancelled any time. Yearly plans run for the year you paid for and renew only if you choose to. The kit is yours to keep.
Who can use the kit?
The purchasing entity and its staff may use and adapt the materials for internal work. Please do not resell or redistribute them.
Is your own website accessible?
We work to meet WCAG 2.1 AA on this site and test it with automated tools and keyboard checks. Please see our accessibility statement and tell us about any barrier you find.
Plain and honest: Civic Steady offers a readiness and organizing kit. It is not legal advice and it does not guarantee compliance. We always recommend talking with your attorney about your entity's obligations.
